Take the Reins is a ground-breaking organisation working with young people from communities that face significant disadvantage due to social and economic factors, or through their race, ethnicity and culture.
Our work is embedded within the sport of horse racing and its wider community, which offers a unique approach to youth development and training programmes in the communities in which we work.
We also recognise that racing sits within the wider sporting environment in the UK with many shared values, stakeholders and opportunities for blended learning . For this reason, while racing remains the pathway for our programme and is core to our training and progression offer, our grassroots projects embrace multi-sports activities and transferable skills training for the wider sports arena.
As an organisation we realise that we have a unique pathway for young people, from community engagement to careers in racing and beyond. We also recognise that we offer the sport of racing a unique pathway into communities that the sport struggles to attract and engage. Within this space we will support the sport of racing to become more diverse, inclusive and representative of society at large.
“To provide young people from all communities and backgrounds with the opportunities to ‘Take The Reins’ over their own lives through the lens of the racing industry”.
“We are committed to giving young people the chance to become aspirational in their journeys through personal development, vocational and/or formal training. To take the sport of horseracing back to the grass-roots communities and provide the pathways for young people to succeed within the broader sports arena”.
